FG shuts down telecom activities in Zamfara over the insurgency.

Hardly six months following announcing Zamfara State a ‘no-fly region, ‘us government, in a replaced energy to fight banditry and other forms of insecurity in the state, has turned off all telecom activities Zamfara state.

The tone of the page that has been closed by the Government Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof Umar Danbatta, and addressed to the Primary Professionals of all the telecom operators in the country, signifies that neighboring claims to Zamfara like Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna and Katsina amongst others, might be suffering from the telecom black-out, given that signal to or from a telecom system in Zamfara could increase solutions up to 45 miles away.

The most recent development comes on the heels of the same directive by the governor of the State, Bello Matawalle, who, a week ago, reported the closing of most traditional markets in the state included in methods to address the worsening security condition in the state.
The area of the NCC’s page titled “Re: Shutdown of All Telecom Web sites in Zamfara State” reads:  “The pervading security condition in Zamfara State has necessitated a sudden turn off of most telecom solutions in the state from today, September 3, 2021. “In line with that necessity, you’re at this moment guided to turn off all websites in Zamfara State and any site(s) in neighboring claims that could offer telecommunications service in Zamfara State. Your website shutdown is for fourteen days (September 03-17, 2021) in the very first instance. Your urgent action in that respect is required.”
As standard, a careful Community Affairs department of the Commission is to verify that the page emanates from NCC as both sounds contact, text messages, and WhatsApp messages to the Manager Community Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde were ignored.

The Chairman Association of Registered Telecom Operators in Nigeria, ALTON, Engr Gbenga Adebayo, also refused to either choose his calls or react to inquiries on the issue at the time of filing that report.
